What is Months in Portugal?
Is it possible to live, study, and be self-supporting in Portugal? Hundreds of Bulgarians prove this each year! The Months in Portugal Program is based on the experiences of Bulgarian people who have successfully lived and studied in Portugal. Over 200 million people speak Portuguese. A good command of the Portuguese language can be important for a career in areas such as international tourism, trade, banking, media, and government administration.
Training
The program offers 3 month courses in foreign language schools in Portugal. Classes are held 5 days a week for 3 to 4 hours per day. The training fee includes:
- One month of course fees, including textbooks, photocopies, etc.
- Orientation to Porto and Lisbon through cooperation with a local coordinator
- Detailed information on police registration, opening a bank account, and registering for medical services and a social insurance number
- Search for housing that meets school standards. Candidates may have the opportunity to earn their own living once activating the right to work
Costs in Porto and Lisbon
Housing costs range from 100 to 150 Euro per person per month. Food is less expensive than in many other European countries, approximately 100-120 Euro per month. Remember to include additional funds for entertainment, clothing, and other purchases.
Polycontact provides an accomodation list and information on how to handle formalities. The apartments are centrally located, nicely furnished, and well managed. You must give at least one week notice before moving out of the apartment. If there are any problems, contact the local coordinator.
Program Cost and Inclusions
The first payment is for the 3 month course. Subsequently participants will pay the program fee. Fees differ according to the choice of school and location.
Program fees include:
- 3 months of Portuguese education in a specialized center
- Document preparation
- Pre-departure language courses
- Pre-departure orientation and trip organization
- Assistance and welcoming upon arrival in Portugal
- Accomodation arrangements (participants are responsible for rental payments)
- Contact with an English speaking coordinator in Lisbon. This person will provide information about the town, education, housing, transport, shopping, etc.
Eligible Participants
The ability to speak Portuguese is not a requirement. Portuguese courses will be organized before the applicant departs Bulgaria to provide a basic knowledge of the language. The ability to speak English is always advantageous. Applicants are typically under the age of 29, but there is no set age limit for the program.
Required Documents
The following documents are required for participation in the program:
- Completed application for the Portuguese course (these can be picked up at the Polycontact office)
- 2 passport size photos
- Certificate showing no previous criminal record
- Certificate showing no previous criminal record
Applicants will then arrange the required documents with a personal coordinator and apply for a visa at the Portuguese Embassy.
