What is the J-1 visa?
The J-1 visa is used for cultural exchange. You receive the right to enter the USA for participation in a student program.
What is the DS-2019 Form?
This document is provided to you by the sponsoring organization. It is proof that you participate in the program. Without this document you can not apply for a visa or enter the USA.
What are the preferences of my insurance?
Your insurance is for emergencies , it does not recover your expenses for a dentist or another illness. You would make an additional insurance. Polycontact” assistants will give you detailed information.
When is deadline?
There is no a deadline but job offers are limited so if you want to be absolutely sure for your participation please enroll early.
What is necessary to be done if I want to participate?
Please welcome to some of Polycontact” offices in Bulgaria and our assistants will give you a detailed information connected with Student Exchange Programs 2005 . Polycontact ‘ assistants will give you instructions for filing up the necessary documents. When you start the applying process you must fill up the application form, make an English language test, have an interview with some of our assistants and pay the first fee.
Which level of English language is required?
The requirements for English language level vary according to job offer . All applicants have an English language test in our office. Polycontact offer gratuitous English courses.
Who will provide me a job offer?
There are two variants- self –arranged program and not self arranged program. For more information please check in section What includes the program and how much does it cost?
What kind of offer I will receive?
Your personal consultant will give you a detailed information for all job positions so you will make your choice for the job offer. You must know that the job offer depends on your requirements, English language level, experience and skills.
Would I work with my girl/boyfriend?
Candidates through Code II and Code III may work together with their friend. There are very strict laws in some states so it is not 100 percents that you will share one room with your friend. The company that you will work for will be the same for both. It is possibly a group from 5-6 or more candidates to receive a job offer for the same place.
How much money I will receive?
The payment vary according the job position and from concrete state. Payment is lower in some states but the expenses are also lower. Payment depends also on the benefits that offer the company (free food, lodging, transport, etc.)Trainees receive usually 7-7.50 USD per hour. If you have a restaurant offer and you are responsible for customer’s service the payment would raise 2.13-3 USD per hours because you will have tips. The payment is through paycheck which you may receive immediately or to make a deposit in a bank account.
Is it necessary to pass all student exams before going to the USA?
You must pass one or two exams from the second term before the visa interview.
What can I do if American embassy refuse me a visa?
If the American embassy refuse you a visa you will receive back the program fee but you do not receive back the sum of the American supported organization. The training programs are approved from the American embassy so the visa’ s refusing is because of your improper behavior or document’ s error. This year the reimbursement is 100USD less.
How much cost the airplane ticket?
The airplane ticket is in two ways. According to the concrete state and month the ticket price may vary from 450 till 600 Euro with airport fees. Polycontact will make an arrangement for your airplane ticket so you are able to travel with the other trainees . The airplane tickets depends on the airplane company, the month. During the summer the prices are higher and the free places are limited. We strongly recommend you to plan your participation early.
How much pocket money I must bring with me?
The American organizations recommend to bring with you approximately 500USD for the first two weeks and to cover your trip expenses.
Is it a person that will meet me on my arriving?
Usually the representative of the company will meet you in the city or in the resort . You will travel till there alone or with the participants traveling in the same direction. Before flying you will receive a detailed information for the American culture to make your adaptation easier . Also you will receive instructions how to organize your trip. It is very important to inform our assistants for the exact date and hour of arriving at the American airport if you would like to be meted .
Where will I live?
When you will receive an offer from the American company you will receive an information for your lodging. In case you are looking for a lodging for a couple of nights you should accommodate in hostel. some kind of hotels for youth with low prices . For example the cheapest hotels in New York are approximately 20-30USD per night. The salesmen in host supermarkets often give you information where to stay overnight.
If you are looking for long-term lodging , you could use the information for real estates in newspapers. Apartments are usually with a different size , facilities and price. The price may vary 200-350 USD for a person or more. In many cases apartment rent is after signing a contract. You must have a clear information for what is included in a contract before signing a contract. It is a common situation lodger to pay “damage deposit” with the first rent. When the contract is finished you will receive back the “damage deposit” if you toe the contract line.
In most cases short-term renting is more expensive than long-term renting. American manners is to offer unfurnished flats. If you wish to furniture your place you could receive an assistance from agencies. Their addresses and contact ‘ telephones published also in magazines.
It is very important lodgers to stand by American habits and culture.
What kind of transport I will use to go to my work place?
Some companies provide a transport for its employees. The biggest American cities have a metro and busses .Their prices are cheap. Cars are not a proper variant because of the higher traffic. Cars are proper for the small cities. You may buy or rent a car but only if you are above 21 years old and you have a driving license for the concrete state and a credit card. You must know that renting or buying a car is connected with additional duties- travel fees, insurances, deposits, registration, etc.
Would I come back home the last month?
After signing the job offer it is your duty to stay till its end(four months).The last month you have the possibility to travel in the country . If you prefer not to stay you may come back in Bulgaria.
